Corinna’s world consists of only three colors: white, black, and pink. The once seemingly infinite potential of her city life grows increasingly confined-a fact Cho expresses through his always regular layouts and his restricted color palette. ![]() It’s been several years since its publication, and though Cho’s career is booming ( his blog includes his recent covers for Action Comics and Batwoman), I hope he will eventually return to this non-superhero project because it features such a complex but subtle use of the graphic form to express its protagonist’s inner landscapes.Ĭorinna is a frustrated, 20-something employee of a New York ad agency. ![]() Michael Cho intended Shoplifter, his first graphic novel, as the first in a series of linked stories. ![]()

6/30/2023 0 Comments The Clay Lion by Amalie Jahn![]() ![]() This is just one of those books that makes you glad you chose to put a pause on the life button so you can take time to fall head long into the world Jahn creates. ![]() Although we often hate to hear the phrase “everything happens for a reason”, somehow Jahn manages to take that idea and make it beautifully inspiring. She has created a powerfully visual story but still manages to leave enough open to allow the reader to put something of themselves into plot and characters so you feel invested in taking this journey. Admittedly this story has a bit of a heartbreaking premise so you might be hesitant to jump in because after all who wants to knowingly spend their time on something full of sorrow? The Clay Lion though breaks the normal rules and is the start to a wonderful series thanks to the skillful writing talents of Amalie Jahn who provides one of those stories that grabs you and won’t let go. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments Nevada barr dry tortugas![]() When not fantasizing about that long-ago time, Anna splits her attention between dealing with work, scuba diving, and wondering what really happened to the previous ranger (rumored to have gone crazy after his girlfriend left him). ![]() ![]() The crumbling fortress holds special significance for Anna, whose several-times-great-aunt Raffia lived at the fort when her husband was posted there.especially after Anna's sister sends her a packet of letters Raffia wrote there after the Civil War. Garden Key itself is the site of Fort Jefferson, where the conspirators in the Lincoln assassination were held along with Confederate prisoners of war. This remote series of islands in the Florida Keys offers visitors beautiful scenery combined with fascinating history. To give herself time to sort out her feelings, after an unexpected proposal of marriage from her sheriff/priest boyfriend, Anna takes a short-term post as supervisory ranger on Garden Key, in Dry Tortugas National Park. ![]() ![]() The Barnes & Noble Review Flashback finds Park Ranger Anna Pigeon mingling past mysteries with present dangers in one of the most exotic of America's national parks. ![]() |
